River Trail Seat Dedication |
Club members may wish to attend the dedication of the first new River Trail table and seats to Reynolds Bach this Wednesday after our meeting. You are all welcome.
A dedication ceremony on Wednesday 28th August to honour H Reynolds Bach CBE (cousin of club member Terry Bach), who served Lower Hutt as Engineer, first for the Borough then for the City, from 1938 to 1965. Reynolds, was also a foundation member of the Rotary Club of Hutt (now Hutt City Inc.) which was incepted in 1943. |
Another point of interest is that Noel Grigg, club member John's father, succeeded Reyn when he retired. Bruce Sherlock, this weeks Rotary luncheon speaker will be also be speaking at the seat dedication about the City's infrastructure and the relevance of Reynold Bach Drive which leads up to the Silversteam landfill.
The invitation to you is to join us for our normal Wednesday luncheon at 12.00pm, and at close of the meeting at 1.30pm, adjourn to the river bank by Melling Bridge for the dedication. The Hutt News have also indicated their presence. |
This week's speaker is Bruce Sherlock |
Bruce Sherlock will speak to us this week about his role at HCC andEngineering trends in the Hutt Valley.
Bruce has a Bachelor of Commerce from Canterbury University, he came to Wellington 20+ years ago; worked for BP Oil and subsidiaries thereof for 20+ years, Bruce has worked at Hutt City Council since 2000, initially as Roading Manager |
but his role has grown "organically" to now be the GM of Infrastructure. This encompasses Council's Property, Roading, Water and Drainage, Waste, and Emergency Management functions.
The Waste portfolio is particularly relevant as it encompasses Silverstream Landfill which is of course on Reynolds Bach Drive. |

Hello ,
Last week we had our official visit from the DG Howard Tong and his partner, Jenny, together with our ADG Ian Grigor. Howard spoke to us about his vision for the District in the coming year. He is very enthusiastic and excited about our inclusion in the pilot programme for the Rotary Foundation funding. |
Our Club is putting in a request for funding on behalf of our cluster for funding for the seating on the Hutt River Trail. Robin Maud has done a huge amount of work on this and the plan is to replace the several different types of seating along the trail with high class uniform seating as displayed on his wonderful banner last week. I'm sure that we can secure some funding from a District Grant. Appropos of this, the Bach family are dedicating a seat tomorrow in the name of Reynolds Bach, Terry's cousin and a staunch Rotarian.
Kindest Regards, President Carol. |
DG Blogs |
Our DG Howard Tong has his own BLOG! A Blog is basically an open notebook on the web. What Howard writes and posts is viewed by anyone who cares to come and read it.
The purpose of the DG Blog is to provide daily snippets of news that comes to him as District Governor as he 'hits the road' and visits the 60 Clubs in our District. "I can post items I see in Bulletins, emails that are sent directly to me or items of interest which I believe will be of interest to others" says Howard.
You can read - and if you want to you can also add comments and become a follower(subscriber). " I can't see why we can't have at least 600 followers (that's 10 from each Club)" says Howard, |
This is DG Howard's entry for our Culb visit: Our first lunchtime meeting was this week - on Wednesday at Hutt City. We are so proud of all the Rotarians we are meeting in our visits - dedicated to service above self. Ably assisted by AG Ian Grigor we enjoyed a friendship of a very busy Club - their programmes are certainly building communities - especially their big plans to complete seats on the Hutt River walk way. This is the Club where we also thanked past president Allan Brown for his vision and focus in getting the Home Hosting programme underway for the World Cup. He advises the revised web site is about to be launched. President Carol has a very dedicated team ready to build bigger, better and bolder programmes.

This sign was seen in Scotland:

From Barbara Sherwood: The Italian Secret to a Long Marriage: At St. Peter's Catholic Church in Toronto , they have weekly husband's marriage seminars. |
At the session last week, the priest asked Giuseppe, who said he was approaching his 50th wedding anniversary, to take a few minutes and share some insight into how he had managed to stay married to the same woman all these years.
Giuseppe replied to the assembled husbands,
'Wella, I'va tried to treat her nicea, spenda da money on her, but besta of all is, I tooka her to Italy for the 25th anniversary!'
The priest responded, 'Giuseppe, you are an amazing inspiration to all the husbands here! Please tell us what you are planning for your wife for your 50th anniversary?'
Giuseppe proudly replied, " I gonna go pick her up." |
